Thomas Malsch

Thomas Malsch is since 1996 the head of the institute of technology and society at the technical university of Hamburg. From 1966 until 1972 he studied sociology at the FU in Berlin. (1972 diploma in sociology, 1975 graduation dr. rer. pol., 1985 habilitation). From 1972 - 1980 he worked as a researcher at FU Berlin. From 1982 - 1989 he was a research fellow at Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB). 1989 he became the head of the department for "technology and society" at the university in Dortmund. His main research interests are the social impacts of the new communication technologies. Currently, he is the coordinator of the Priority Programme "Socionics - investigating and modelling artificial societies" (1999 - 2005), established by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Ingo Schulz-Schaeffer

Ingo Schulz-Schaeffer studied sociology, theology and informatics at the Universities of Hamburg, Marburg, Heidelberg und Bielefeld. He graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Bielefeld. His dissertation (1999) considers theoretical issues of the sociology of technology. His second dissertation (Habilitation, 2006)is about attribution of action. From 1992-1993 he was a researcher at the Institute for Science and Technology Studies at the University of Bielefeld, from 1993-1996 at the University of Dortmund at the Chair for Technology and Society, and from 1996-1999 at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg at the Department of Technology Assessment. From 2000-2006 he was Assistant Prof. at the Technical University of Berlin, Institute of Sociology, where he works as a Guest Prof. now.
