James Millington

Dr. James Millington has received BSc and PhD degrees in Geography, and an MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Modelling, from King's College, London. James' research background is landscape ecology and geography, with specific focus on the integration of socio-economic process into models of ecological succession-disturbance dynamics. His PhD research examined the impact of potential human-caused land use/cover change on ecological patterns and processes (predominantly wildfire) in a Mediterranean landscape by using a spatially-explicit simulation model. In 2007 James began work on the development of an ecological-economic model of a managed forest landscape as Visiting Research Associate at Michigan State University.

Raúl Romero-Calcerrada

Dr. Raúl Romero Calcerrada is Senior Lecturer in the Rey Juan Carlos University. He has a degree in Geography and a PhD in Cartography, Geography and Remote Sensing Systems from the Universidad de Alcalá, Spain. Raúl's areas of scientific interest are centred on rural planning and Natural Protected Areas. He is especially interested in the study of changes in territory as a means to understand the interactions between socio-economic and environmental processes (such as forest fires), and establishment of more effective land use planning and rural development. In his work Raúl adopts both quantitative and qualitative research methods utilising Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, and spatial statistics.

John Wainwright

Prof. John Wainwright has a BA in Archaeology and Geology from Bristol University, where he also obtained his PhD on erosion of semi-arid archaeological sites in 1991. In 1993 he took up a lectureship in physical geography at King's College London, where he was subsequently reader (2000) and professor (2002). John moved to Sheffield as Professor of Physical Geography in 2005. John's research interests include the geomorphology of arid, semi-arid and Mediterranean regions, processes of overland flow and soil erosion, geoarchaeology, links between hydrological, geomorphological and ecological processes, and computer modelling of hydrological and geomorphic processes, and human interactions with landscape-forming processes.

George Perry

Dr. George Perry completed undergraduate and Masters studies in the Departments of Geography and Plant and Microbial Sciences at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, before completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne. George was lecturer in the Department of Geography at King's College, London for four years before moving the School of Geography, Geology and Environmental Science, University of Auckland. George's research interests span plant ecology, spatial analysis and environmental modelling. All of George's research involves an empirical component supported by modelling (whether simulation or statistical).
