Jan C. Thiele

Jan C. Thiele received a diploma degree in economics and a MSc in forestry sciences. Currently, he is on the way to finish his PhD in the graduate program of environmental informatics at the Georg-August University of Goettingen, Germany. He is interested in agent-based modelling, especially regarding tools and standards for building and analysing models and has a second focus on (web-based, spatial) decision support/information systems and data management.

Winfried Kurth

Winfried Kurth is Professor for Computer Graphics and Ecological Informatics in the Department of Ecoinformatics, Biometrics and Forest Growth at the Georg-August University of Goettingen, Germany. He is interested in formal grammars, graph transformations, rule-based programming languages, and in tools for specifying and running Functional-Structural Plant Models (FSPMs). Results of his team's work were the language XL (eXtended L-system language) and the open-source simulation platform GroIMP (www.grogra.de). Volker Grimm

Volker Grimm is biologist and physicist. He works as senior scientist at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research-UFZ, Leipzig, and is Professor for Theoretical Ecology at the University of Potsdam. He has been involved in developing a wide array of ecological models, but his main research interests are stability properties of complex systems, e.g. resilience, and the methodology of modelling in general and of agent-based modelling in particular. He has co-authored the first monograph on individual-based modelling in ecology and the first textbook on agent-based modelling.
