Samer Hassan

Samer Hassan (PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). He has carried out research in social simulation and artificial intelligence from positions in the University of Surrey (UK), Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal) and the American University of Science & Technology (Lebanon). His main research focus nowadays is the collaborative distributed social network Kune. Coming from a multidisciplinary background in Computer Science and Social Sciences, he has 40 publications in those fields. As a social entrepreneur, he has co-funded the Comunes.org Nonprofit for open-source tools and applied research with social aims. His research interests include decentralised social networks, collaborative environments, agent-based social simulation, free/libre/open source software, modelling of social network communities, peer-to-peer production & organisation, the networking of social movements, and commons-based peer production.

José Manuel Galán

José Manuel Galán is trained in Industrial Engineering. He works as associate professor at the University of Burgos (Spain). He obtained his PhD from the University of Burgos, supervised by Adolfo López-Paredes of the INSISOC Group of the University of Valladolid and by Ricardo del Olmo of the University of Burgos. He is interested in water management, replication, agent-based modelling, game theory, social networks and the use of models in general. Luis Antunes

Luis Antunes holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of Lisbon (2001). He has been a researcher in Artificial Intelligence since 1988 and published more than 70 refereed scientific papers. He was the founder and first director of the Group of Studies in Social Simulation (GUESS). Luis Antunes is on the Program Committee of some of the most important international conferences on Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Agent Systems and Social Simulation, such as AAMAS, ECAI, ESSA, WCSS and MABS. He was co-chair of the international workshops MABS'05, MABS'06, MABS'07 on Multi-Agent-Based Simulation, and co-editor of the Springer-Verlag proceedings volumes. He is member of the MABS Steering Committee, of EUMAS Advisory Board, member of ESSA Management Committee and of APPIA (Portuguese Association for AI) board of directors. Antunes hosted EUMAS 2006 and AAMAS 2008, and ECAI 2010 as chair of the organising committee. He was the proponent and a co-chair of the first IJCAI workshop on Social Simulation (SS@IJCAI 2009), the founder of the first Portuguese Workshop on Social Simulation as a Special Track of EPIA 2009, and the Program Chair of EPIA 2011.

Juan Pavón

Juan Pavón is Full Professor at Universidad Complutense Madrid. He got a PhD degree in Computer Science from Universidad Politécnica Madrid (1988). From 1987 to 1997 he was working in R&D departments of Alcatel in the development of component-based architectures for distributed systems and their application to multimedia services on broadband networks and mobile systems. He joined UCM at the end of 1997, where he created the GRASIA research group, whose focus is on the application of multi-agent systems technology, in particular, on software engineering, knowledge management, simulation of complex systems, decision making, interactive art, and ambient assisted living.
