Andrew Collins

ANDREW J. COLLINS, Ph.D., is a research assistant professor at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) which is a research center for Old Dominion University. He obtained a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Southampton in 2009. He has spent the last 15 years, through his research and as an analyst for the UK’s Ministry of Defence, applying analytical techniques to variety of practical operations research problems. He is currently focused on the applications of agent-based modeling to real world problems like housing foreclosures, crowd evacuations and insurgency. He is also interested in the impact of visual rhetoric on the presentation of simulation results

Mikel Petty

MIKEL D. PETTY, Ph.D., is the director of the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis, and an Associate Professor of Computer Science. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 1997. His primary research interests are simulation interoperability and composability, verification and validation methods, human behavior modeling, and simulation software architectures. He has published over 185 research papers, been awarded over $16 million in research funding, and graduated five Ph.D. students.

Daniele Vernon-Bido

DANIELE VERNON-BIDO is a Ph.D. candidate at the Virginia Modeling Analysis and Simulation Center - VMASC - at Old Dominion University. She received her B.S. in Computer Science (1987) from Brooklyn College, her M.S. in Computer Information Systems from Boston University (Brussels, Belgium) and her M.S. in Modeling & Simulation (2013) from ODU.

Solomon Sherfey

SOLOMON SHERFEY, a VMASC project scientist, was a US Navy submariner and then manager of Simulation Database Services for the Joint War Fighting Center before coming to VMASC in 2008. He is a “mustang”, earning his bachelor’s degree while on active duty and then being awarded a commission in the Navy. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Naval Post Graduate School and has continued his post-graduate coursework in Modeling & Simulation and Geographic Information Systems.
