Ian S. Lustick is Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Political Science Department at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds the Richard L. Simon Term Chair in the Social Sciences and also serves as Associate Director of the Solomon Asch Center for Study of Ethnopolitical Conflict at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He taught previously at Dartmouth College,is a founder and past President of the Association for Israel Studies, and a past President of the Politics and History Section of the American Political Science Association. His primary research fields are comparative politics, Middle Eastern politics, and methodology with special emphasis on Arab-Israeli relations, Jerusalem, the dynamics of state-building and state contraction, ethnopolitical conflict, and applications of evolutionary and complexity theory in the social sciences. His modeling work focuses on problems of deliberative democracy, collective identity, ethnic conflict, and globalization.
