Deborah Vakas Duong

Dr. Deborah Duong received the Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics from George Mason University in 2004. Dr. John Grefenstette was her dissertation director. She has been working in Symbolic Interactionist Modelling since 1990 as a Masters student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She works for Object Sciences Corporation in the Washington D.C. area. She has three lovely children, Sonny, Lana, and Anna.

John Grefenstette

Dr. John Grefenstette received the Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. In 1986, Dr. Grefenstette became Head of the Machine Learning Section at the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence at the Naval Research Laboratory. In 1997, he joined the Computational Biology Laboratory at George Mason University. Since 2002, he has served as Chair of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Program at GMU. Dr. Grefenstette was Associate Editor for the journal Evolutionary Computation, serves on the editorial board for the journal Adaptive Behavior and has been Associate Editor for the journal Machine Learning.
